Criminal Trial Advocacy

Guilty or not guilty? Student-attorneys will have the opportunity to prosecute or defend a complete criminal trial from start to finish. After studying the relevant substantive law of the crime itself, students will learn basic procedural and evidentiary rules governing criminal trial advocacy. Student-attorneys will learn how to examine and cross-examine witnesses and how to prepare effective opening and closing statements. Finally, students will apply these skills to a case file, completing a full, mock trial criminal case before a jury.
