Human Rights Advocacy: Law and Social Justice

Examine the historical and philosophical foundations of human rights and explore important areas of human rights advocacy, including international and domestic efforts. Delve into historical cases and contemporary human rights issues that address immigration, equality and diversity, discrimination, genocide, the environment, and culture. Specific topics to be discussed include fair trade, cultural heritage, refugees, elder rights, forgiveness and reconciliation, and methods of nonviolent action. Learn how you can address injustice in your hometown, country, and global community. Develop and present a comprehensive human rights campaign. Experiential opportunities, including guest speakers, a visit to the International Civil Rights Center and Museum, and other field trips, will offer students the chance to see human rights in action.
