Abnormal Psychology

This course explores an array of psychological disorders and related theoretical concepts, including schizophrenia, eating disorders, personality disorders, anxiety, and stress disorders. We will explore such questions as, "What is considered normal behavior and who determines that definition? How does the profession assess, diagnose, and support those considered 'abnormal'?" Critically review diagnostic criteria and explore various types of therapies. Discuss popular media representations of common disorders and analyze their authenticity. Evaluate different perspectives in both fictional and nonfictional cases as you read several young adult novels and texts and conceptualize basic treatment options.
