Code of Conduct
All eInvestigators are expected to adhere to the following Code of Conduct:
- Students will not harass, abuse, or insult other students, instructors, or Duke TIP staff members on the program websites or tools or in any communication related to the program. Such harassment or abuse may include, but is not limited to:
- communication that degrades or demeans an individual or group based on that individual or group's ethnicity, sex, race, religion, or sexual orientation;
- interaction of a sexual nature; or
- intimidation or threats of any kind.
- Students will view Duke TIP as a community and will recognize the commonalities and respect the differences that make each student unique. Students will abide by Duke University’s nondiscrimination policy regarding race, color, religion, national origin, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, sex, genetic information, and age.
- Students will access Duke TIP's eInvestigators websites and tools only for program-related purposes.
- Students will comply with the acceptable use policies of all program accounts, including the uploading and sharing of appropriate, copyright-free content.
- Students will not share their login information or allow nonregistered users to access or participate in activities on eInvestigators websites or tools.
- Students will not post links or make reference to websites or other materials that are offensive or inappropriate in nature, or that are unrelated to the program’s purposes and activities.
- Students will respect the privacy of other users, and will respect the integrity of the computer systems and other users' data.
- Students will respect the copyright protection of computer software; video, image, and audio files; and print materials. Students will not make use of, or encourage the use of, illegally copied or downloaded materials.
- Students will not engage in “hacking” or other behavior that may disrupt, obstruct, or otherwise hinder the instructional activities of the program or cause damage to other participants' computer systems.
- Students will not engage in academic or social dishonesty, including, but not limited to, plagiarism. Student work submitted for evaluation in the eInvestigators Program will be the unassisted work of the student, unless the work is part of an assigned group collaboration or the student is given express permission to consult specific sources.
eInvestigators is a month-long online program for fourth, fifth, and sixth graders that takes place each year in the spring, summer, and fall. Using leading-edge instructional technology, participants collaborate with a small group of classmates and an expert Lead Investigator to collect clues about a real-life mystery, analyze evidence, and propose theories.
