Cost and Financial Aid
eInvestigators costs $185, including access to program software and web tools, plus a nonrefundable $10 application fee. If you are placed in the program, you must pay the full program fee (minus any financial aid award) within one week of your notification or you may be dropped from the program and your student’s spot awarded to another applicant.
All payments must be made in US dollars, and checks must be drawn on a US bank. Fees may be paid by check, credit card, or money order. Paying by check authorizes Duke University to make a onetime electronic fund transfer from your account. These funds may be withdrawn from your account as soon as the date of receipt. Once the electronic transfer is made, your canceled check is destroyed. Returned checks will result in a $25 processing charge.
Duke TIP believes that all academically talented students should be able to access the resources they need to reach their highest potential, and that all students benefit when there is a diverse community of learners. That’s why we are committed to providing need-based financial aid for our educational programs.
How to apply
Our financial aid process includes the following steps: (1) review of your tax documents, (2) assessment of your expected financial contribution toward the program tuition, and (3) notification of your financial aid award based on available funds and your expected contribution.
If you would like to be considered for financial aid, you should submit a financial aid application (PDF) in addition to your program application. We will only review your financial aid application if you are placed in a program, so financial aid requests do not affect your admissions decision. In addition, as long as you are qualified and we have financial aid funds remaining for the year, you will receive an award—however, we do recommend you apply as early as possible to maximize your chance of receiving aid.
Please note that although acceptance into our programs has nothing to do with financial need, your program application cannot be processed until both the program application and the financial aid application have been received. We follow this process because it enables us to share the amount of financial assistance families will receive at the same time they are notified if their student has been accepted into a TIP program.
Families who send multiple students to TIP programs in a single year are eligible to receive financial aid for each individual student; however, we are not able to provide any additional financial assistance beyond those awards.
Additionally, you must submit a new financial aid application each year, even if you were awarded aid previously, so we can ensure that the amount you qualify for has not changed. Financial aid recipients will receive aid awards for only one course during the academic year.
Students who withdraw from the program by May 9 will receive a full refund of the program fees. Students who withdraw between that date and the first five days of the program will have 50 percent of their program fees refunded. After the first five days, no refunds will be issued for students who do not participate in the course or who are dismissed from the program. In addition, program fees are nontransferable and the application fee is nonrefundable.
eInvestigators is a month-long online program for fourth, fifth, and sixth graders that takes place each year in the spring, summer, and fall.
