Academically talented students need educational challenge to remain engaged and interested in what they are learning. Unfortunately, that's something they don't always get in school. Our enrichment activities can help. They were designed specifically to help connect our families with resources that are needed to motivate gifted students. These benefits are available through the end of high school for the onetime enrollment fee paid in seventh grade. They include the following.

Special publications

Each month, students receive a new issue of Insights, the 7th Grade Talent Search online magazine for gifted students. Every issue is dedicated to a different subject or field of research and features articles, interviews with TIP alumni and experts in the field, writing prompts and essays from TIPsters, and recommendations for books to read—including books on that month’s theme, related classics, and reviews from other TIPsters. We also highlight students who recently achieved a state- or national-level honor in each issue.

Opportunity Guide

Duke TIP maintains listings of programs, contests, scholarships, and awards of interest to high-achieving scholars in our online Opportunity Guide. These listings help our students find academic opportunities that meet their needs and interests.

Learning discounts

7th Grade Talent Search participants receive a discount on Duke TIP’s Algebra 1 Online Independent Learning product and are eligible to purchase a special K–12 student version of Rosetta Stone Foundations, which is only available through educational outlets, through Duke TIP, allowing them to learn on their own time, at their own pace.

Students qualify for the 7th Grade Talent Search by scoring at or above the 95th percentile on a grade-level standardized test. Enrollment provides benefits that last through the end of high school, including the opportunity to take the ACT or SAT, specialized publications, college prep advice, and access to educational programs.
