How to register

New 4th–6th Grade Talent Search members

Only 4th–6th Grade Talent Search participants can register for the PSAT 8/9 through Duke TIP, so if you are not yet a Talent Search participant, you should start by enrolling in the Talent Search. You can follow the instructions in the Getting Started section.

If you register for the Talent Search online, you can sign up for the PSAT 8/9 at the same time. If you opt to enroll in the Talent Search with a paper application, be sure to include the PSAT 8/9 paper registration form (PDF) if you want your child to participate in testing.

Current 4th–6th Grade Talent Search members

There are two ways for current talent search members to register for the PSAT 8/9.

1. Online (preferred)

The fastest and easiest way is to visit our enrollment site and click on PSAT 8/9 Registration.

2. By mail

If you can’t register online, you can use a paper registration form (PDF).

Cost and financial aid

The PSAT 8/9 requires a nonrefundable $42 fee. Financial aid is available on a first-come, first-served basis for students who are eligible for free or reduced lunch. Find more details and instructions.

Registration opens September 1 for current members and October 1 new members.

Deadlines are midnight eastern time.

Some test centers reach capacity before the deadline, so we recommend registering as early as possible.

Make-up days have been scheduled for Saturday, February 23, and Sunday, February 24, if a test center closes due to inclement weather.

Test center locations

Use our test center locator to find a test center near you.

Though it’s not required, we strongly recommend that you select a second test center when registering—if your first choice is full, you will be assigned to your second choice.
