The Operations Coordinator fills a vital role as liaison among Duke TIP administration, academic staff, residential staff, students, and parents. The Operations Coordinator oversees all of the logistical aspects of a Duke TIP site. The Operations Coordinator establishes and maintains an on-site office in the residence hall and directly supervises the Office Assistant. On-site offices are generally open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. The Operations Coordinator is responsible for covering the office for eight hours per day and ensuring that other staff is available for the remaining time each day. While on duty, the Operations Coordinator must be accessible 24 hours a day via cell phone in case of emergency. In addition to overseeing the logistical operations of the site, the Operations Coordinator reports all relevant concerns to the On-Site Director and confers regularly with the on-site administrative team and the main office to discuss student and site issues. The Operations Coordinator and other administrative staff must arrive several days before other staff to begin campus preparations. Some programs require Operations Coordinators to reside on the program site for the duration of the program; in other programs, Operations Coordinators who reside on the program site in TIP housing for the duration of the program are strongly preferred.

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience is required. Previous office experience is preferred; staff experience with a Duke TIP Summer Studies program or similar residential program for gifted youth is helpful. Excellent organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently are required. A working knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Excel) is required; additional knowledge of Google Apps is preferred. Applicants must possess a genuine interest in the academic, social, and emotional growth of adolescents, exhibit maturity and a positive attitude, and be willing to serve as a role model for students. There is a driving requirement for this position at Duke TIP. Eligible drivers must possess a valid driver’s license, be at least 21 years old, have an approved driving record on file, and be willing to drive students in Duke TIP vehicles (cars, minivans, eight-passenger SUVs).
