Duke TIP partners with the The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation (JKCF)—an organization dedicated to advancing the education of exceptionally promising students who have financial need—to offer TIP students access to scholarships that help them hone their academic talents and pay for college. Applications for these scholarships are competitive and should be made directly to JKCF as outlined below. In addition to these premier national scholarships, TIP families may find other scholarship opportunities of interest to them detailed in TIP's Opportunity Guide.
Young Scholars Program
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Young Scholars Program, a selective precollege scholarship, seeks high-performing seventh grade students with financial need. The program cultivates scholars' talents and abilities throughout high school by providing individualized academic advising, financial support, and a pathway to the foundation's $40,000-per-year college scholarship. Scholars gain access to:
- help planning a suitable academic course load,
- summer academic and enrichment program opportunities,
- study-abroad and community-service opportunities,
- lessons to develop music, art, or other talents; college and career counseling, and
- networking with the larger Jack Kent Cooke Scholar community.
Students who stand out for their exceptional academic abilities and achievements, drive and persistence, leadership, and desire to help others are encouraged to visit the JKCF site or watch this video to learn more. The application for the Young Scholars Program opens in January and closes in April.
College Scholarship Program
Each year, the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation also seeks high-achieving high school seniors with financial need for its College Scholarship Program, the largest undergraduate scholarship in the nation. Selected students receive college planning support, ongoing advising, and up to $40,000 per year to attend a four-year accredited undergraduate institution. If you know students who stand out for their exceptional academic abilities and achievements, persistence, leadership, and desire to help others, encourage them to visit the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation website to learn more. The application opens in September and closes at the end of November.
