On-Site Director (Academic Adventures)

The On-Site Director is the chief administrator of each program site and is responsible for smooth and efficient program operations. The On-Site Director reports to and works with the Assistant Director of Academic Year Programming at the Duke TIP Main Office before, during, and after the program on components including student activities, classroom and instructional matters, conduct matters, and other program logistics at host institutions as needed.

Job Duties


  • Plan and implement orientation for Duke TIP Academic Adventures Program staff and lead mandatory instructional staff meeting
  • Supervise on-site administrative and instructional staff
  • Review student and staff disciplinary situations
  • Manage all parent communication during programming
  • Meet with host campus representative and/or Duke TIP Site Supervisor regarding program logistics
  • Supervise distribution of and inventory return of all program materials
  • Enforce all program policies and ensure program procedure adherence to support the safety of students and staff; report all incidents and concerns
  • Communicate with parents as needed regarding conduct, medical, academic, and social concerns; document communications
  • Interface with host campus representative regarding program logistics
  • Organize and oversee the details of program opening and closing, including but not limited to: supervision of classroom inspections, organization of students’ arrival and departure, replacement of moved furniture/materials, assessment of any damages, and return of items to storage at the end of each program session.
  • Visit classrooms in the morning and afternoon to provide support to instructional staff, observe student learning and engagement, and quality of instruction.
  • Evaluate and report as directed at the end of the program

Staff Supervision

  • Commitment to Saturday schedule of 7:30 am – 4:30 pm or until last student is signed out by parent/guardian and all supplies are unloaded at the local Duke TIP storage facility
  • Emergency accessibility 24 hours a day via cell phone
  • Supervise the entire Duke TIP staff at the assigned program site.
  • Communicate daily with the administrative team (Program Assistants) to ensure each individual is aware of student and staff issues
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein

Educational Requirements

A bachelor’s degree and experience working with upper elementary, middle, or high school students in a teaching and supervisory capacity is required. Master’s degree is strongly preferred. Experience working with academically gifted K-12 students is highly preferred.  

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Exceptional leadership and organizational skills.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Eligible drivers must possess a U.S. Driver’s License, approved driving record on file with at least three years of satisfactory driving history, and be at least 21 years of age.
  • CPR certification is required. If necessary, Duke TIP will reimburse the cost of this certification to the individual in the position.
