Program Assistant (Academic Adventures)
Program Assistants are supervised by and work closely with the On-Site Director and other staff members to accomplish the overall mission of the program by attending to the safety, well-being, and enjoyment of program participants. The Program Assistant attends to program logistics and organizes projects and activities.
- Commitment to Saturday schedule of 7:30 am – 4:30 pm or until the last student is signed out by a parent/guardian and all Duke TIP–owned supplies have been unloaded at the local Duke TIP storage facility
- Assist in student arrival, registration, and departure procedures
- Organize meal logistics, assist with meal setup and cleanup
- Assist with distribution of and inventory return of academic program materials. Use inventory tool, as needed, to maintain track of instructional supplies at each storage facility
- Work with the On-Site Director to establish appropriate methods of articulating program and academic expectations and enforcing program rules
- Visit classrooms in the morning and afternoon to observe student learning
- Supervise students during non-academic times (e.g., lunch, breaks)
- Provide support and assistance to other TIP staff members as needed
- Evaluate and report as directed at the end of the program
- Capture pictures of student learning throughout the day and assist with managing Parent Blog at program site, adhering to all Duke TIP guidelines regarding posting student information and details about program location
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein
A minimum of one year of college academic experience. Experience as a Camp Counselor, College Residential Adviser, or similar position is preferred. Experience working with upper elementary, middle and/or high school students in a teaching or supervisory capacity is preferred. Experience working with academically gifted K-12 students is highly preferred.
