Residential Counselor

Residential Counselors supervise small groups of students. Residential Counselors are responsible for facilitating co-curricular activities and implementing the residential mission of Duke TIP.  Residential Counselors support the student experience by fostering student development and building a community of living and learning based on mutual respect. Housing and meals are provided on-site.

Job Duties

  • Duties include full-time live-in day, evening and weekend commitments

  • Assist in student arrival and departure day procedures

  • In collaboration with the Residential team, organize daily programming and activities for students following Duke TIP guidelines

  • Meet daily with assigned student group

  • Support the social and emotional well-being of the students

  • Actively supervise students during scheduled duty hours

  • Manage student conduct issues following Duke TIP guidelines

  • Participate in rotating duty schedule

  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein

Educational Requirements

A minimum of one year of college is required. Experience as a camp counselor, college residential assistant, or experience with programs for the academically gifted is preferred.
