Content Expert

Content experts work in concert with course developers to design online courses for academically gifted students. Content experts bring in-depth professional knowledge to help course developers create cutting-edge, innovative courses that challenge gifted youth. Content experts provide content and skill objectives, concepts, artifacts, and a variety of resources (such as, but not limited to, interactive simulations, readings, videos, scenarios, and case studies). Content experts advise the course developer while the developer creates rigorous, student-centered curriculum with tasks simulating some professional work in the discipline.

Job Duties

  • Respond to TIP staff phone or email inquiries and messages within 48 hours

  • Identify rigorous and age-appropriate readings, videos, and other resources; suggest ideas for interactive and visual resources as well as digital tools

  • Contribute ideas for high-level essential questions for modules

  • Suggest meaningful and rigorous content and skill objectives

  • Collaborate with developers to design meaningful, real-world assessments that lead to relevant student products and performances; provide consultation as the course developer creates clear directions, meaningful tasks, and meaningful standards for rubrics

  • Create content for scenarios, simulations, role plays, and case studies; provide artifacts and online resources allowing for students to simulate work from the discipline

  • Advise course developer on varied skill levels needed for tiered assignments

  • Perform beta tests on various activities, assignments, assessments, and modules and provide feedback for revisions to the developer

  • Provide feedback on module activity sequences

  • Provide feedback on other developer-generated content such as collaborative activities, live session agendas, and other tasks

  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein

Educational Requirements

A Master’s/terminal degree in subject area and/or industry experience in subject area. Expertise in specific subject matter and/or a level of preparedness sufficient to design challenging material.  Strong writing and communication skills.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of LMS, the Cloud (Google apps), presentation software, and other software applications

  • Collaborative, flexible, innovative, and the ability to meet frequent deadlines
