Matt Sears


Director of Educational Programs

Matt joined TIP in 2017 and heads up all face-to-face educational programming for TIP, including curriculum development, seasonal staff recruiting, staff training, and day-to-day management of summer and academic year programs. Before joining TIP, Matt spent six years at NC New Schools/Breakthrough Learning, developing teachers and school leaders in project-based learning, deploying principles and practices of critical friendship, coaching principals and district leaders on school improvement, and leading the organization’s move from face-to-face to blended professional development and distance learning. Matt holds his BS in mathematics with computer science from Purdue University and a MAT from UNC-Chapel Hill. Matt has received numerous teaching awards, including the Teacher of the Year for Durham Public Schools and a Fulbright award to teach middle school math in Tamil Nadu.
