EXPLORE® Test: Above-Level Testing
Registration for the 2015-2016 EXPLORE is closed. Information about 2016–2017 above-level testing will be posted in August.
Duke TIP will offer two testing opportunities, one in late fall and another in early winter. A separate testing fee will be required. Registration dates, fees and deadlines will be posted in August.
Why Participate in Above-Level Testing?
In our current academic atmosphere, testing outcomes often serve as the primary determining factor in the placement of students into special programs, classes or grade level assignments. Some gifted students may consistently achieve top scores on grade-level assessments providing a positive response from both the parent and student but failing to provide useful measures differentiating levels of ability and depth of knowledge. Precise and accurate above-level assessments are helpful in measuring how far academically talented students have mastered material beyond their grade level. Resulting score information may allow these students access to advanced learning opportunities and resources that will expand their knowledge.
Although TIP recommends taking advantage of this opportunity, above-level testing is optional and is not required for participation in any of our 4th-6th Grade Talent Search benefits or educational offerings.
2015–2016 EXPLORE Score Reports
EXPLORE score reports are mailed by the testing agency to testers six weeks after the test date. Parents are responsible for communication of change of address information to Duke TIP at (919) 668-9100 and ACT at (319) 337-1369. If reports that are not received in a timely manner, please contact ACT directly.
The 2015-2016 EXPLORE Results Summary will be posted on this site on or after May 1 and will include a comparison chart.
Duke TIP EXPLORE testers who achieve a composite score at or above the 99th percentile are honored for their outstanding accomplishment at a state recognition ceremony in May or June. Invitations are mailed in April.
